A little about me…
I have been helping people for over twenty years, coaching others for much of my adult life without even realising it. My professional background is in education, working with both secondary school children and adults. Over time, and through flexing my “helper” muscles in various guises and approaches, I’ve learned to switch hats from educator, to mentor, and eventually to coach.
The differences between these three hats? Very intertwined, but each can easily be singled out.
The educator in me introduces new theories and techniques, whilst the mentor advises what could be done to improve a person’s outlook, attitude, or personal or professional situation. Lastly, the coach listens and asks questions, to help the client work out what they need to do to reach the goal.
For me, the rewards from coaching are massive. I enjoy the journey, the rapport that develops between coach and client, and the feeling of joy once the client reaches their ultimate goal. A shared celebration, and a wonderful feeling inside – that I have made a genuine, positive, and lasting difference to a person’s life.
